Recipients of "HOPE"

The recipients of the gift of the Still Waters photo have either used the photo to be an encouragement in their home/business, public facility and/or to raise resources to help them through the storm.

HOPE 2000

Tom Higgins stepped into the path of a runaway sled to rescue a small child from certain death or injury and was hospitalized. Resources were raised by the students of Salk Middle School in Spokane Washington, using the Still Waters "Vision of HOPE" picture in the form of bookmarks which they sold to help meet Tom Higgins' medical costs. Tom reiterated that he would do it again today even knowing he would be paralyzed for life. The students called him their hero as they pressed on to help meet the needs of his family.

HOPE 2001 - 911

The Twin Towers fell in 2001 and the Salk Middle School students were asked to represent the students of Spokane in the New York 911 Memorial. The support money was raised (using the photo) and along with the memorial was delivered to New York City one year following the tragedy! The memorial was delivered by the Spokane Fire Chief's team and is forever sealed as a reminder that good will triumph over evil, encouraging people to never give up HOPE! The Still Waters photo was not only included in the memorial, but it was delivered to President Bush through an earlier visit by Senator Ashcroft.

HOPE 2004

In loving memory of Gary Trainor, a teacher at Northwood Middle School, Spokane, Washington, who modeled character to the staff and the students. An automobile accident took his life in November, 2004. A fellow counselor/ friend was reminded of the mark Mr. Trainor left on the community and how his life will continue to ripple HOPE for a brighter tomorrow in the legacy he left behind. The picture hangs inside the school's counseling center as an encouragement to the staff and the students.

Vision of HOPE 2007

Recipient Janis Mortlock, family and the staff and students at Nine Mile Falls Elementary, Nine Mile Falls, Washington. Janis has experienced God's peace in the journey through cancer as family and friends and a school of support surrounded her. She has not lost the JOY in the journey! United in prayer, we stood together as an encouragement to Janis and one another to never lose HOPE in the midst of the battle! One day at a time.

______March 7, 2007 Words of Hope from Janis Mortlock______

"Please pray for relief of my pain. I was up most of the night with the burning pain and 'contractions' at the site of my pancreas."

I leave you with the reminder from God's word in II Corinthians 1. "Grace and peace to you, my dear friends, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts you in all your troubles, so that you, my dear friends, can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort you have received from God.Ê For just as the suffering of Christ flows over into your life, so also through Christ your comfort overflows." Janis Mortlock

Surrounded by love...

Janice Mortlock surrounded by flowers Janice Foland, who took the "Still Waters" photo in 1995, was Janis Mortlock's teacher years ago at Shaw Junior High, in Spokane, Washington. Janice Foland had battled pancreatic cancer and was 100% healed following the "Whipple Surgery." The two were reunited during 2006 as Janis Mortlock battled the same pancreatic cancer.

May their story of HOPE remind us that what may appear to be the end of the road is only a bend in the road when God is in the picture.
